NTL BOYS SOCCER: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY LOOKING FOR CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT IN '25 (2025-08-17)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportLIBERTY — Head Coach Matt Grinnell and the Mounties soccer team opened preseason camp last week and are looking to continue the upward swing they’ve made the last few seasons.
The Mounties went 11-7-1 a year ago .. a one-win improvement from their 10 wins in 2023 that followed a 6-win season in 2022.
While North Penn-Liberty lost some key members of their 2024 squad to graduation, Grinnell has a strong core coming back, including senior goal keeper Deakon Valentine.
Grinnell also points to a number of returning players who will be looked at to increase or change roles this season, including Brody Grinnell, Parker Jackson, Bryce Kent, Truman Loudenslager, Mason Forer, Peter Bishop and George Bishop.
The Mounties have also experienced an influx of new faces to the program, which Grinnell is optimistic about.
“Our roster numbers are around 30,” says Grinnell, “and that includes a lot of 9th graders .. which is good for the program. I think we’ll see a few that could contribute pretty quickly at the varsity level .. Nicholas Ohnmeiss, David Graf, Kai Wheeland .. I'm sure there's more but just from open fields I can see these kids playing and helping.”
Most of Grinnell’s roster put in work this offseason.
“We held a number of open fields this summer that were well-attended,” says Grinnell, “some kids went to soccer camps .. some kids are in travel soccer and some kids are in a summer soccer league.”
The Mounties need to replace almost all of their scoring from last season .. having lost 40 of the 46 goals they netted in ’24 to graduation.
“We definitely have some big shoes to fill,” says Grinnell, “but I think you can expect to see our soccer team still be competitive .. that's what we're hoping for.”
The Mounties will once again open their season by playing in the Galeton Tournament, which runs on Friday and Saturday.
