NTL FOOTBALL: PANTHERS MOVE TO 2-0 WITH SHUTOUT AT SAYRE (2025-08-29)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
SAYRE — North Penn-Mansfield pounded the line of scrimmage to the tune of 223 yards on the ground against Sayre here Friday night and shut the Redskins out to earn their second straight win to start the season, 25-0.

Sophomore Jeremiah Lawrence had 21 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown while senior Luke Kreger scored three TDs on the ground while rushing for 96 yards on the night.

After trading drives and punts to start the game, the Panthers took advantage of their second offensive possession near the end of the first quarter to put together an 81-yard drive that ended with a Kreger TD from four yards out with 8:03 left in the first half of play.

Brody Grinnell was good on the PAT and North Penn led 7-0.

The Panthers defense forced a Sayre three-and-out on the ensuing possession and marched down the field with the help of a Bradley Brooks to Patrick Youmans completion that gave North Penn-Mansfield a first down at Sayre’s five-yard line.

Kreger would take it around the right end for his second score of the night and after a blocked extra point, the Panthers led 13-0 with just under five minutes remaining until the break.

NPM threatened to add to their first half lead, getting inside Sayre’s 20, but Sayre’s defense stiffened and the Panthers took their 13-0 lead into the locker rooms.

The Redskins ended North Penn-Mansfield’s first drive of the third quarter with an interception, but the Panthers ‘D” forced a Sayre turnover-on-downs near midfield and went on a 51-yard drive, culminated with a Lawrence 2-yard TD run. After another blocked PAT, North Penn-Mansfield led 19-0 with 4:06 left in the third quarter.

The Panther defense forced another Sayre punt, but gave the ball back to the Redskins on a fumble at the Redskin 26. After again making Sayre punt it away, the Panthers put on another drive and Kreger would score his third TD of the game from 29 yards out with 4:42 left in the game. The failed extra point attempt provided the 25-0 final.

QB Brooks completed four passes in nine attempts for 44 yards for the Panthers, with Patrick Youmans grabbing two catches for 32 yards.

The Panther ‘D’ allowed just 95 yards total for Sayre in the game, with Skyler Everett collecting 11 tackles and Micah VanLoon making seven stops, and Sayre was penalized nine times for 68 yards while NPM lost 50 yards on five flags.

The Panthers, now 2-0 on the season, will return to Island Park next Friday night when they host Towanda (0-2).
