HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER: HORNETS EDGE SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT (2025-08-30)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportSOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — Wellsboro scored a pair of first half goals and held the Mounties off for a 2-1 win in non-league boys soccer action here Saturday.
Mason Brill scored midway through the first half off an assist from David Seeling and Colin Fletcher took a direct kick from Jude Cuneo with under 10 minutes remaining before the break and scored to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead.
South Williamsport scored their lone goal at the 26:55 mark of the second half on a penalty kick but the Hornets shut them out the rest of the way to hang on for the win.
“We had injuries in the first half that left us shorthanded for the second half,” said Head Coach Todd Fitch following the win, “At that point we weren’t full strength, but others stepped in and created additional scoring chances .. limited South’s opportunities at goal and helped us get the result, which was a complete team effort.”
Wellsboro (3-0) is scheduled to host Athens on Tuesday.
