Northern Tier West Sports Report
WELLSBORO — Wyalusing broke up a scoreless tie midway through the second half but the Lady Hornets scored two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 win in NTL girls’ soccer play on senior night here Thursday.

“When we went down in the second half our girls dug deep and refused to back down,” said Head Coach Michael Reese following the win, “They fought with heart .. they fought with grit and they came storming back with two unanswered goals.”

The Lady Rams opened the game’s scoring at the 21:08 mark of the second half before Haylie Smith tied it up with a goal off a Lilah Paredes throw-in with under 17 minutes remaining.

With less than three minutes left in regulation, Luna Moyer scored the game-winner off a Lily Wagner assist and Wellsboro held on for the win.

Keeper Jadyn Dunlap made 10 saves in net as Wyalusing out shot Wellsboro 11-9 and the Lady Hornets had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.

“Every single player emptied the tank tonight,” said Reese, “and that’s what made this senior night so special.”

Wellsboro (10-5) visits Mansfield on Wednesday to take on the Lady Tigers (6-6). The Hornets won the first match-up, 3-0.
