NTL FOOTBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD FALLS 21-9 TO MUNCY (2025-10-03)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportBLOSSBURG — North Penn-Mansfield scored first and pulled to within five points early in the fourth quarter after allowing a pair of Muncy touchdowns, but ultimately fell to the visiting Indians, 21-9, in a hard-fought, heavily penalized NTL crossover game Friday night at Island Park.
Muncy finished with over 300 yards of offense in the win (171 rushing, 156 passing) while the Panthers gained 200 yards (35 rushing, 165 passing) and the teams combined to be penalized for 212 yards (Muncy .. 13-145 yards, NPM .. 8-67 yards).
After North Penn opened the game with a punt, the Panthers’ “D” bent but didn’t break, forcing a Muncy turnover on downs on NPM’s 13-yard line.
QB Bradley Brooks completed a pass to All-State receiver Luke Kreger and a Muncy facemask call set the Panthers up with a first down at the Indians’ 40-yard line. Another completion to Kreger got the Panthers to the 20 and a 12-yard gain by Bentley Chilson gave NPM a 1st-and-goal at the eight. But a three-yard loss and a pair of incompletions made NPM settle for a 27-yard field goal try and Brody Grinnell nailed it to put North Penn up 3-0 with 1:33 left in the opening quarter.
Kreger finished with nine catches for 138 yards in the loss, while Brooks completed 7-of-10 passing attempts for 96 yards and, after an injury knocked Brooks from the game, back-up QB Peyton Greene was 4-for-9 for 49 yards.
Muncy started the ensuing possession at their own 25 and a holding call set them back to their 15, but the Indians rattled off three straight pass completions and had a 1st-and-10 from the Panthers’ 12-yard line. On 4th-and-1 from the three, Muncy QB Andrew Walters plunged into the end zone and after a good PAT try, the Indians led 7-3 with 10:02 left in the second quarter.
Neither team could capitalize before the break, as North Penn fumbled their next possession away, Muncy missed a 21-yard field goal and the teams traded punts to end the first half of play with the score still 7-3, Muncy.
The Panthers opened the second half at their own 38 and drove to the Indian 7-yard line with the help of two completions to Kreger and a pair of Muncy penalties, including a helmet-to-helmet call. Brooks would be injured during the drive, and a fumble by North Penn-Mansfield gave the ball back to the Indians at their own 4-yard line.
Muncy’s ensuing 96-yard drive was aided by a pass interference call and an unsportsmanlike conduct call against North Penn-Mansfield. Walters capped the drive from three yards out and after the good PAT, the Indians led 14-3 with 50 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Panthers answered quickly, as Colton Pellett took the kickoff back to Muncy’s 30-yard line and after switching fields for the fourth quarter, Kreger ran it in from 24 yards out. The Panthers went for two but were stopped, leaving the score at 14-9 Muncy with 11:50 left to play.
Kreger led the Panthers with 50 yards rushing and the score on 11 carries, while Chilson added 15 yards on eight rushes.
Muncy would extend their lead on their next drive, which covered 80 yards and took four and a half minutes off the clock. A 7-yard TD run and their third good PAT try with just over seven minutes left provided the 21-9 final.
North Penn started their next possession at their own 33 and reached midfield, but the drive stalled out and they’d turn it over on downs with four minutes left in the game.
The Panthers drop to 4-3 on the season with their third straight loss. They’ll travel to Troy next Friday to take on the 6-1, defending State Champion Trojans.
