NTL BOYS SOCCER: WELLSBORO WINS DOUBLE OT THRILLER OVER LOYALSOCK IN D4 PLAYOFFS (2025-10-22)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
WELLSBORO — Just minutes away from a penalty shootout to decide their District 4 Class 2A playoff match with Loyalsock, No. 5 seed Wellsboro scored off a corner kick in double overtime to earn the 2-1 win over the 12th-seeded Lancers.

Coen Tennis found the net off of Gabe Cuneo’s corner in the 108th minute of play to break up the 1-1 tie and send the Hornets into the quarterfinals.

The visiting Lancers opened the game’s scoring with a goal 11 minutes before the break and held the 1-0 lead until just 10 minutes remained in regulation.

David Seeling took advantage of a Loyalsock penalty call on teammate Mason Nowak and tied the match with his penalty kick, sending the game into overtime after holding the Lancers off the rest of the half.

Wellsboro out shot Loyalsock 8-7 while keeper Camden Tom made five saves in goal for the Hornets.

“A complete team effort,” Wellsboro Head Coach Todd Fitch stated after the win, “We had guys not get in the match tonight, but there’s no doubt that they played a significant role in the preparation for this game. From the training ground to the game, every player contributed to tonight’s win.”

Wellsboro (12-5-2) moves onto the quarterfinals and will face No. 4 seed Montoursville at Milton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
