NTL BOYS SOCCER: ALEXANDER'S GLUT OF GOALS POWERS NPL PAST TROY (2021-09-22)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportCANTON — It was a nice gesture to allow the Troy soccer teams to play a home game in Canton, since both the boys’ and girls’ teams feature several Warriors-turned-Trojans, but it was North Penn-Liberty’s Caiden Alexander that seemed to be right at home in the Mounties match Wednesday at Miller A. Moyer field, scoring five second-half goals and leading NPL to a 6-4 win over the Trojans.
Troy opened the high-scoring game just over three minutes in on a Wyatt Hodlofski goal, before NPL’s Jackson Brion tied things up at the 32:44 mark off an assist from Zachary Wilcox.
Hodlofski found the net again with just under seven minutes left in the first half, giving Troy a 2-1 lead that lasted into the break.
Fresh out of the locker rooms, the Trojans extended their lead to 3-1 on a Brady Spalding goal just a minute and a half in.
A minute and a half later, Alexander started off his scoring rampage with a goal that was deflected, but not enough, pulling the Mounties to within 3-2. Wilcox again assisted. Another minute and a half later, Alexander connected again, tying the game at three.
With 30:50 left in the game, Alexander scored his fourth goal in six minutes of play on an assist from Derek Litzelman, and a 5-3 Mountie lead.
With nearly 23 minutes left, Alexander had another penalty kick opportunity, and the senior connected for his fifth goal. (Thank you Google for the assist on “glutâ€.)
Troy would add another Hodlofski goal with just under 20 minutes left, but the Mounties held the Trojans off for the remainder of the game and secured the 6-4 win.
NPL was outshot 25-8 by the Trojans, and had one corner kick to Troy’s four. Mountie keeper Daniel Harmon had five saves in goal.
The Mounties are scheduled to host Wellsboro on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
