HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL: HORNETS BEAT HUGHESVILLE FOR FIRST WIN (December 13, 2025)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Hornets earned their first win on the young boys’ basketball season here Saturday, beating non-league foe Hughesville 46-41.
Wellsboro led 8-4 after the first quarter and 21-18 at the break. Hughesville rallied to take the lead with a 15-11 third quarter but the Hornets had their best quarter of the night in the fourth, scoring 14 points and holding the Spartans to eight to earn the win.
The Hornets’ balanced scoring attack was led by Jonathan Carl’s 10 points while Marek Mascho had nine, Luke Rothermel had eight and Gideon Lawton had seven points.
Colin Fletcher and Ransom Schultz had four points each and Griffin Morral and Ethan Keane each had two points.
Rothermel had eight rebounds and Carl had seven, while Mascho came up with seven steals and Rothermel handed out four assists.
Wellsboro (1-2) is scheduled to return to action Tuesday at Sayre.
