NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: COACHES NAME INDIVIDUAL AWARD WINNERS AND ALL-STAR TEAMS (2021-03-21)

TIOGA COUNTY, PA — The NTL Boys’ basketball coaches named their season award winners and all-star teams Sunday, and the “West” is well-represented on the lists.

North Penn-Liberty head coach Brian Litzelman and his staff was voted Coaching Staff of the Year.

The small-school champion Mounties compiled a 14-3 overall record, including a 9-0 mark in their division and 13-2 in the league. Their only losses came to large-school champion Troy, large-school runner-up Wellsboro and state powerhouse St. John Neumann in the District IV Class A finals. 

North Penn-Liberty’s Noah Spencer was named the NTL Offensive Player of the Year

The Mountie senior averaged 19.9 points per game, including hitting 38 three-pointers and shooting 68 percent from the free-throw line. Spencer handed out 89 assists on the season, and collected his 1,000th career point in the District final game.

North Penn-Mansfield’s Curtis Craig was recognized as the league’s Sixth Man of the Year.

Craig, a 6’ 4” senior, came off the NP-Mansfield bench and averaged 11.7 points per game. He grabbed 54 rebounds and had 12 assists and 11 steals for the 9-9 Tigers.

The remaining League-wide awards went to NTL Player of the Year Ty Barrett from Troy, and Defensive Player of the Year Mitchell Burke of Wyalusing.

Wellsboro placed two players on the Large School Division All-Star Team - Liam Manning and Darryn Callahan.

Manning nearly averaged a double-double for the season, scoring 17.6 points and grabbing 9.2 rebounds per game. The 6’ 5” junior also handed out 22 assists and collected 17 steals for the 15-4 Hornets.

Callahan was Wellsboro’s second-leading scorer, averaging 11.8 points per game. The junior had 120 rebounds, 39 assists and 34 steals.

The rest of the Large School all-stars were J.J. Babcock and Mason Lister from Athens, and Ethan Vannoy and Mason Imbt from Troy.

Wellsboro also had one player named to the Large School Second Team - Conner Adams - while North Penn-Mansfield placed both Karson Dominick and Alex Stein on the team.

Adams, a sophomore, averaged 8.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2 steals per game.

Dominick, a freshman, led the Tigers with 14.3 points per game, including 36 threes. He also had 110 rebounds, 27 assists, 12 blocks and 25 steals.

Stein averaged 11.6 points per game and was good on 17 three-pointers. The senior handed out 67 assists, had 34 steals and grabbed 80 rebounds.

The remaining members of the Large School second team are Tucker Brown and Nalen Carling from Athens, and Troy’s Jake Dietrick.

In addition to their coaching staff and Spencer being recognized with awards, NP-Liberty placed a player each on the NTL Small School Division First and Second Teams.

Brandon Thompson was named to the first team after averaging 14.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. 

Joining Thompson on the first team is Cowanesque Valley’s McGuire Painter, who averaged 15.1 points per game for the 3-16 Indians.

The remaining first-team selections are Grady Cobb and Isiah Way from Wyalusing, Isaiah Niemczyk from Canton and Northeast Bradford’s Nick Beers.

NP-Liberty’s Colton Litzelman heads the Small School second team after averaging 8.5 points per game, including 16 three-pointers and hitting 78 percent of his free throws. The senior grabbed 96 rebounds, had 51 assists and 42 steals.

The other second-team members are Canton’s Caiden Williams and Cooper Kitchen, Dom Fabbri from Sayer, Blake Morningstar from Wyalusing and NEB’s Lucas Crown.
