NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES EARN SECOND STRAIGHT WIN OVER CV (January 17, 2026)

WESTFIELD — The North Penn-Liberty and Cowanesque Valley boys’ basketball teams played the second of back-to-back games here Saturday with a similar outcome as the Mounties won 61-48.

Liberty topped the Indians 61-45 on Thursday.

Saturday, NPL’s Luke Kreger and CV’s Ashtyn Burdick each scored eight first quarter points as the Mounties took a 16-13 lead. Burdick scored seven more in the second quarter and Evan McTish netted eight for Liberty as the teams played to a 16-16 draw and the Mounties took a 32-29 lead into the halftime break.

A 12-5 Liberty third quarter increased their lead to 44-34 before Kreger (8 pts.) and McTish (6 pts.) led the Mounties to a 17-14 fourth to seal the win. 

Kreger finished with a game-high 24 points and completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. McTish also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards while Conner Lewis had seven points, 11 rebounds and three steals and Brody Grinnell had seven points and three steals. 

Landon Mattern had six points and seven assists in the win and Sudan Benner rounded out the Mountie scoring attack with three points.

Burdick led CV with 21 points. Joshua Teague scored eight points, Trevin Hollenbach and Parker Lee had six points each, Carsyn Kemp had five points and Levi Stahli had two points.

North Penn-Liberty (8-5) and CV (4-10) are both scheduled to return to play Monday .. when the Mounties host Benton and the Indians host Canton.
