NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES DOWN HORNETS WITH STRONG 4TH QUARTER DEFENSE (January 21, 2026)

LIBERTY — Down after three quarters of play, North Penn-Liberty held Wellsboro to four fourth-quarter points and beat the Hornets 42-37 in NTL boys’ basketball action Wednesday.

The teams were tied at 8-all after the first quarter before Liberty took a 19-15 lead into the break. 

Colin Fletcher scored 12 points in the third quarter to lead Wellsboro to a 33-29 lead before NPL used seven points from Landon Mattern to outscore the Hornets 13-4 in the fourth and get the win.

Mattern led the Mounties with 15 points while Luke Kreger added 14 points in the win. Evan McTish had seven points, Brody Grinnell had six points and five steals and Conner Lewis had 11 rebounds.

Fletcher led the Hornets with a game-high 16 points and added six rebounds and three steals, while Jonathan Carl had eight points and 13 boards, Griffin Morral and Marek Mascho had four points each, Luke Rothermel had three points and Gideon Lawton had two points.

North Penn-Liberty (10-5) is at Wyalusing on Friday, while Wellsboro (6-8) is at Cowanesque Valley, also on Friday.
