NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: HORNETS TOPPED BY ATHENS (February 2, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportATHENS — The host Wildcats used a big second quarter to pull away from Wellsboro and down the Hornets 60-48 in an NTL large school match-up here Monday.
Athens led by one at 9-8 following the first quarter of play and rallied for a 25-9 second to go up 34-17 at the break.
After a 12-8 third quarter in favor of the Wildcats, the Hornets rallied for a 23-point fourth quarter but couldn’t catch up to Athens.
Colin Fletcher led Wellsboro with 16 points and added a blocked shot while Luke Rothermel had 11 points.
Ethan Keane had seven points, Jonathan Carl had four points and six rebounds, Gideon Lawton had three points, Kody Enck, Keagan VanZile and James Doughtie had two points each and Griffin Morral had one point and six rebounds.
Wellsboro drops to 9-10 on the season with the loss and has two regular season games remaining. They’ll host Towanda on Friday and visit Central Columbia on Monday.
