DISTRICT IV BOYS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD HOSTS RIVAL WELLSBORO IN 3A PLAY-IN (February 16, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield and Wellsboro split a pair of contests this season and will play the rubber game on Tuesday when the No. 8 seed Tigers host the No. 9 Hornets in a preliminary round match-up in the District IV 3A boys’ basketball playoffs.
Wellsboro, who finished 11-11 and is the No. 9 seed in the nine-team field, beat North Penn-Mansfield, who went 12-10 and is the No. 8 seed, on December 23rd in the Peg Berguson Memorial Trophy Game, 49-43.
The Hornets used a balanced scoring attack to beat the Tigers, as Marek Mascho had 12 points, Gideon Lawton had 11, Luke Rothermel had eight points, Jonathan Carl had seven, Griffin Morral had six and Collin Fletcher had five points.
Jason Harer led the Tigers with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Andy Hermansen had 14 points and five assists and Kevin Clemente-Vazquez added seven points.
In the teams’ second meeting on January 30th, Harer (21 points, 14 rebounds) and Hermansen (17 points, 13 rebounds) led the Tigers to a 54-45 win at Wellsboro.
Morral and Fletcher led the Hornets with 12 points each while Carl had 10 and Mascho had seven.
Hermansen leads the Tigers and the West in scoring at 14.7 points per game while Harer is second at 14.6. Clemente-Vazques scores 5.6 PPG and has hit 20 threes on the season.
For Wellsboro, Fletcher scores 13.8 points per game and leads the West with 45 threes. Rothermel adds 9.2 points per game and Carl scores 7.1 PPG.
The winner of Tuesday’s game will advance to the 3A quarterfinals where they’ll face No. 1 seed Warrior Run (20-1).
Tuesday’s match-up is set to tip off at 7 p.m. .. tickets must be purchased online ..
