THE SPORTS REPORTS: CORNING'S McLAUGHLIN, STARNS, PROUDFOOT, NEB'S KOLESAR NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (March 15, 2026)

Corning senior Cella McLaughlin won state gold and Northeast Bradford senior Anaiah Kolesar earned a PIAA medal on the mats, while Corning sophomore Nolyn Proudfoot, and junior Char Starns led the Hawks to Section IV titles. They are The Sports ReportsZiff Law Firm Regional "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Feb. 7.

CORNING'S McLAUGHLIN, STARNS, AND NEB'S KOLESAR NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM'S REGIONAL GIRLS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
McLaughlin won four state medals, including a pair of gold medals in the 55-meter hurdles. She won state and federation (includes non-public high schools) with a time of 7.89 seconds, which is the fourth-best time in the Nation.

She also jumped 18-feet, 6 3/4-inches to win a silver medal in the long jump, and was part of a 800-meter relay that won a fifth-place medal.

Kolesar reached the semifinals at the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships with a second-period fall, and a 9-0 major decision, but lost in the semis to the eventual state runner-up.

It was Kolesar's fourth state medal, and third consecutive fourth-place finish.

She bounced back in the consolation semifinals with a 9-6 win, but lost in the third-place match.

Starns scored 33 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to help Corning beat top-seeded Elmira to win a Section IV title. 

Starns cored 12 straight points in the fourth quarter, including her milestone point, and notched a double-double with 12 rebounds, She also blocked five shots.

Honorable Mentions: Athens' Hannah Rathbun and Leah Nason (wrestling), Newark Valley's Adrianna Rich (basketball), and Troy's Haidyn Watson and Gianna Renzi (basketball).

CORNING'S PROUDFOOT NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM'S REGIONAL BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Proudfoot posted a double-double in leading Corning to a Section IV, Class AAA Championship.

Proudfoot led the Hawks 48 points, and 11 rebounds in a win over Ithaca in the finals.
