NTL SOFTBALL: NORTH PENN-LIBERTY SHUTS OUT WELLSBORO IN OPENER (March 24, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportMANSFIELD — North Penn-Liberty hosted Wellsboro for both teams’ season openers here Tuesday and the Lady Mounties earned a 10-0 win in five innings to start the season 1-0.
Liberty took advantage of nine walks issued by the Lady Hornets in the game while Mountie pitcher Elyna Booth threw all five innings and allowed just two hits with two walks while striking out 11.
The Lady Mounties opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Claire Dominick, Booth and Elaina Shaw all walked to load the bases. After a Liberty strikeout, Addie Lehman and Madison Smith walked and Julia Kaczynski was hit by a pitch, giving NPL a 3-0 lead.
Haley Litzelman cleared the bases with a double and later scored on a Wellsboro error and the Mounties took a 7-0 lead into the third inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kaczynski reached on an error, Litzelman and Dominick each walked and all three scored on passed balls to give North Penn-Liberty the 10-0 lead.
Litzelman finished with a double, two walks, three RBI and two runs scored while Booth had the Mounties’ remaining base hit and walked once.
Dominick drew three walks and scored twice, Smith and Lehman each scored a run and had an RBI, Kaczynski scored twice and Shaw and Sophie Route each scored a run.
Ady Frantz took the loss for Wellsboro, throwing four innings and allowing 10 runs .. seven earned .. on two hits and nine walks while striking out 11.
Frantz had one of the Hornets’ two base hits while Mazie Johnson had the other. Delaney Morral and Harleigh Cleveland drew walks.
North Penn-Liberty (1-0) is scheduled to host Towanda on Wednesday while Wellsboro is at Athens on Thursday.
