Northern Tier West Sports Report
MANSFIELD — Senior pitcher Elyna Booth followed up getting her 200th career strikeout on Monday with a dominant performance on Tuesday, striking out 15 Troy batters to lift North Penn-Liberty to a 3-1 win over the Lady Trojans.

Booth pitched all seven innings Tuesday, gave up three base hits and walked just one Troy batter, allowing the Trojans’ lone earned run in the second inning.

The Lady Mounties had taken an early lead, as Madison Smith singled in the bottom of the first inning and would later score on a Julia Kaczynski steal attempt, to put Liberty up 1-0.

The game stayed knotted at one until the bottom of the fifth when Smith and Kaczynski each drew one-out walks, Haley Litzelman scored Smith with a sac fly to center field and Kameron Lightner singled Kaczynski home to give the Lady Mounties the 3-1 lead.

Booth struck out two Troy batters in the top of the sixth and three straight in the seventh to seal the win.

Lightner finished with two base hits and an RBI while Smith had a hit and scored twice, Booth had a base hit, Kaczynski scored a run and Litzelman had an RBI.

The Lady Mounties (2-2) are scheduled to return to action Thursday at Athens.
