Northern Tier West Sports Report
EAST TROY — Wellsboro lost a heartbreaker to Troy here Friday, falling 8-7 on a Lady Trojan walk-off in the bottom of the 9th inning.

The Lady Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Haylie Smith reached base on a bunt single, ended up on 3rd on a Troy error and scored on a passed ball.

After a scoreless second inning Hannah Taylor walked to lead off the third and was driven home on a Rylee Coolidge single to put Wellsboro up 2-0 and a Smith single in the fourth inning plated both Delaney Morral .. who had walked .. and Kaylee Frazier .. who had reached base on a Trojan error .. to give the Hornets a 4-0 lead.

Troy got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and after a scoreless fifth, Morral’s leadoff single led to her scoring on a Paityn Biery sacrifice to give Wellsboro a 5-1 lead.

Troy cut it to 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth and the Hornets took advantage of a pair of Troy errors to get Smith and Ady Frantz on base in the top of the seventh. Teagan Noving plated both runners with a double and Wellsboro led 7-4, but Troy rallied to score three runs to send the game to extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Troy’s leadoff hitter was hit by a pitch, followed by an Ady Frantz strikeout. A Wellsboro error on a sac bunt attempt by Troy gave the Trojans runners on first and third so the Hornets chose to load the bases with an intentional walk.

Troy’s Lauren Reed delivered the one out, walk-off single to complete the Trojan comeback.

Frantz took the loss for Wellsboro, despite striking out 16 Trojan batters across eight and a third innings of work.

Smith had two base hits for the Lady Hornets and added two RBI and two runs scored, while Morral had two hits and scored two runs and Taylor had two hits and scored once.

Novinger had a double and an RBI, Frantz had a hit, an RBI and a run scored, Coolidge and Biery each had a hit and an RBI and Frazier scored a run.

Wellsboro (5-5) is back in action Saturday when they host non-league Hughesville.
