VARSITY SOFTBALL: WELLSBORO DROPS NON-LEAGUE GAME TO HUGHESVILLE (April 18, 2026)

WELLSBORO — The Lady Hornets dropped a non-league game here Saturday, falling 3-1 to the visiting Hughesville Spartans.

Wellsboro scored their lone run in the first inning when Teagan Novinger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Haylie Smith, who had singled to lead off the inning. 

Hughesville had scored one run in the top of the first and added their final two in the fourth.

Ady Frantz took the loss for Wellsboro, pitching five innings and allowing three runs (2 earned) on one Hughesville hit and seven walks with seven strikeouts. 

Gena Fleming finished, going two innings and giving up one hit and two walks with five Ks.

Smith had two base hits while Frantz and Rylee Coolidge had one apiece.

The Hornets (6-4) are scheduled to return to play on Tuesday when they host Athens.
