NTL SOFTBALL: LADY MOUNTIES TOP TROY IN EXTRA INNINGS (April 23, 2026)

Northern Tier West Sports Report
EAST TROY — North Penn-Liberty gutted out their ninth straight win on Thursday, beating Troy 4-2 to earn a season sweep of the Trojans.

Maddie Smith led the game off with home run to give the Lady Mounties an early lead, but Troy answered in the bottom of the first and tied it up at 1-all.

After a scoreless second inning, Liberty got back-to-back, two-out doubles from Julia Kaczynski and Haley Litzelman in the third to take a 2-1 advantage. The Trojans answered again, tying it up at 2-2, and the draw lasted all the way to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, Smith again led off with a big hit, stroking a triple to left field. With Kaczynski at the plate, Smith would try to steal home on a passed ball but Troy got the call at the plate and recorded the first out of the inning.

After Kaczyński walked, Litzelman followed with a triple to score Kaczyński and break the tie. Kameron Lightner hit a ground ball to short and Troy tried to make the play at the plate but Litzelman got under the tag and gave the Mounties a 4-2 lead.

The Trojans got runners on first and second with one out in the bottom half, but Lightner fielded a grounder and stepped on third for the second out and pitcher Elyna Booth induced a weak ground ball to first that Litzelman fielded for the final out of the game.

Booth went all eight innings to earn the win, allowing two earned runs on 10 Troy hits and four walks while striking out nine.

Litzelman finished with three base hits, including a triple and a double, and added two RBI and a run scored while Smith had the home run and triple, one RBI and a run scored.

Lightner had two base hits and an RBI and Kaczynski had a double and scored twice.

Now 10-2 on the season, North Penn-Liberty is scheduled to return to play on Saturday at Cowanesque Valley.
