NTL SOFTBALL: CV LADY INDIANS FALL TO ATHENS IN EXTRA INNINGS (April 30, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportATHENS — Cowanesque Valley came into Athens Thursday winners of their last two games and six of their last seven, but fell to the host Lady Wildcats, 2-1, in extra innings.
After two and a half scoreless innings, Athens scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the third, but CV would answer in the fourth when Lilah LaBarron stroked a one-out triple and Taylor Eldridge would bunt LaBarron home to tie it up at 1-all.
Athens’ pitcher Gretchan Hiley (8 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 17 K) and LaBarron (7 1/3 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 8 K) would shut each other’s lineups down the rest of the way to send the game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the 8th, Hiley led off with a single and Maddie Hiley was hit by a pitch. LaBarron got the first out of the inning with a strikeout but both Athens’ runner advanced on a passed ball during the at-bat. Abby DeLosa put the ball in play with a grounder to second and an error by the Lady Indians allowed Gretchan Hiley to score from third to end the game.
CV’s four base hits came from LaBarron’s triple, a double by Braelynn Balada and singles from Emma Carl and Natalie Grab.
Cowanesque Valley, now 9-6 on the season, is scheduled to return to play on Friday when they host Northern Potter.
