NTL SOFTBALL: WELLSBORO EDGES CANTON BEHIND BIG GAME FROM FRANTZ (April 30, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — Sophomore Ady Frantz hit another strikeout milestone and scored the winning run as the Lady Hornets edged Canton 7-6 in NTL softball action here Thursday.
Frantz pitched all seven innings for Wellsboro, allowing six runs (2 earned) on eight base hits and six walks while striking out 11 batters .. including the 300th K of her varsity career.
The visiting Lady Warriors took an early 2-0 lead before Wellsboro tied it up in the bottom of the second and took a 3-2 lead with one run in the third. Canton scored four runs in the fourth to go up 6-3 but the Lady Hornets answered in the bottom half and tied the game at 6-all.
Still tied up in the bottom of the sixth, Wellsboro got a leadoff single from Frantz, followed by a walk by Delaney Morral. Teagan Novinger drove Frantz home with a single to provide the eventual winning run.
Canton got a leadoff triple to start the seventh, but Frantz recorded her 11th strikeout and got the next two Canton batters to pop out to secure the win.
Wellsboro (7-9) is scheduled to return to play on Saturday with a trip to Coudersport.
