NTL BASEBALL: HORNETS USE BIG INNING TO DOWN CANTON (April 30, 2026)

WELLSBORO — The Hornets exploded for 15 runs in the fourth inning to break open a tie game with 5-9 Canton, beating the Warriors 20-5 in an NTL crossover baseball match-up here Thursday.

Canton scored first, plating a run in the first inning, before the Hornets answered with four runs in the bottom half of the opening frame. The Warriors tied it up with a three-run second inning, the Hornets retook the lead with a run in the bottom of the second and after a scoreless third, the Warriors again drew even, scoring a run in the top of the fourth to make it 5-all.

In the bottom of the fourth, Wellsboro sent 19 batters to the plate and scored 15 runs to end the game early.

The Hornets had seven base hits, drew nine walks, had four batters hit by a pitch and took advantage of six Canton errors in the win.

Griffin Morral (4 runs, 2 BB, SB), Marek Mascho (2 rbi, 2 runs), Coen Tennis (2 rbi, 1 run, SB), Max Mascho (3 runs), Cameron Owlett (3 rbi, 2 runs, SB), Gage Baltzley (2 rbi, 2 runs, 3 BB, SB) and Reed Richardson (2 rbi, 1 run) each had a base hit in the win. 

Marek Mascho started on the mound and went two innings, allowing four runs (3 earned) on six base hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Syler Pietrzyk pitched the final two innings, giving up one unearned run on two hits while striking out three. 

The Hornets (11-2) are scheduled to host non-league South Williamsport (8-4) on Saturday.
