NTL TRACK & FIELD: WELLSBORO'S KOSEK, BOYS 4x800 RELAY LEAD STRONG SHOWING FOR HORNETS AT DAY 1 OF DISTRICTS (May 14, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportMILTON, PA — Wellsboro had a very successful showing at Day One of the District IV Track & Field Championships in Milton Thursday, collecting finals appearances, medals and State qualifications.
Junior Lauren Kosek punched her ticket to states in the 3200m run with a 2nd place finish. Kosek recorded a new PR .. 10:43.00 .. beating her previous 3200m record (10:44.88) by nearly two seconds. Kosek, along with champ Baylee Espinosa from Lewisburg, also broke the District IV record of 10:50.91.
The boys' 4x800m relay team of seniors David Seeling, Jude Cuneo, Max Macias and Henry Whitney will also be making the trip to Shippensburg for the State Championships after placing 6th with a time of 8:14.57, beating the state qualifying time of 8:15.55.
Junior Piper Hoprich cruised to win her 100m semi-final heat, running a state-qualifying time of 12.20 to make Saturday’s final, while sophomore Luna Moyer also qualified for the 100m dash finals with a 7th place (13.00) finish. Senior Sophia Yoder was 15th (13.26).
Senior Kristina Belz finished 7th (16-ft, 1) in the long jump with sophomore Isla Twoey taking 16th (13-ft, 4) and the girls' 4x800m relay team was 16th (11:49.72).
Freshman Olive Twoey placed 16th (18.13) in the 100m hurdles with sophomore Jennifer Belz finishing 23rd (20.34).
Sophomore Brayden Benjamin qualified for Saturday's finals in the 110m hurdles with a 7th place finish (16.81).
Whitney finished 9th (9:57.78) in the 3200m with Macias in 13th (10:19.65) and freshman Liam Stevens was 15th (19-ft, 2) in the long jump.
Action resumes back at Milton High School for Day Two on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
