TIOGA COUNTY — The NTWSR / Laurel Health ‘Athletes of the Week’ are a full stable of PIAA medal-winning Track & Field standouts, led by Wellsboro State Champion Piper Hoprich.

Joining Hoprich as ‘Athletes of the Week’ are Wellsboro teammates Lauren Kosek, Luna Moyer, Sophia Yoder, Paige Rush, David Seeling, Jude Cuneo, Max Macias and Henry Whitney, as well as North Penn-Mansfield’s Luke Kreger.

Hoprich won a pair of gold medals at Shippensburg University at the PIAA Track & Field Championships, claiming titles in both the 100m .. in a PR of 11.90 .. and 200m .. in a PR of 24.39.

Hoprich also joined teammates Moyer, Yoder and Rush in breaking the school record in the 4x800m relay (49.48) in Friday’s preliminary and the foursome earned a 4th-place medal in Saturday’s final in 50.25.

Lauren Kosek followed up winning a 5th-place medal in the 1600m .. in a PR of 4:58.65 .. on Friday by bringing home a silver medal in the 3200m on Saturday .. 10:35.87.

As a team the Wellsboro girls were third in the state with 37 points, just behind winners Chenango (40) and Hughesville (39).

Seeling, Cuneo, Macias and Whitney all earned a state medal as their 4x800m relay team earned 6th place to add to Wellsboro’s haul. 

North Penn-Mansfield's Luke Kreger earned a spot on the podium on Friday, finishing tied for eighth in the Class AA boys high jump with a leap of 6-02.
