TIOGA COUNTY SPECIAL OLYMPICS HELD AT WELLSBORO (May 29, 2026)

WELLSBORO — The Tioga County Special Olympics held their annual Spring Track & Field meet on Friday at Wellsboro High School.   

245 athletes from around Tioga County participated in activities including softball toss, long jump, walking and running events. Additionally, there was an Olympic Village with numerous games and activities for the athletes to enjoy between their athletic events. 

The day started with the parade of athletes, followed by the presentation of the torch and the athlete oath. The Wellsboro High School band played the national anthem and Wellsboro's Emerald Gems participated in the parade of athletes. 

The mission of Special Olympics PA is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

All training and competition opportunities are provided free of charge to the athletes and their families, enabling everyone to experience the benefits of Special Olympics that extend well beyond the playing field.
