NTWSR 'SUPER 7' FEMALE ROOKIES OF THE SPRING (July 4, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportTIOGA COUNTY — There were a number of newcomers who made immediate impacts for their girls’ teams this past sports’ season, recognized here with our ‘Super 7’ Female Rookies of the Spring.
North Penn-Mansfield freshman Scarlett Graham was named the All-Tioga County Track & Field ‘Newcomer of the Year’ .. won an NTL title in the 4x400m relay, had a runner-up finish in the 4x800m relay and won bronze in the 200m dash at the league meet, medaled with a 3rd-place finish in the 400 and an 8th-place in the 4x800 at Districts and qualified for the PIAA Championships, finishing 15th in the 400.
The All-Tioga County Softball ‘Co-Rookies of the Year’ were freshmen Julia Kaczynski from North Penn-Liberty and Wellsboro’s Haylie Smith.
Kaczyński hit .446 with 25 base hits (9-2b), 20 runs scored, nine RBI, eight stolen bases and a .523 OBP.
Smith batted .328 with 20 base hits (3-3b, 3-2b), 27 runs scored, seven RBI, nine stolen bases and a .432 OBP.
Williamson T&F freshmen Madison Fay and Lainey Hackett .. were both on the NTL-winning 4x800m relay team that then placed 4th at Districts and qualified for the State Championships, finishing 22nd.
Hackett placed 3rd in the 800 at the NTL meet, 5th in the 3200 and 7th in the 1600, while Fay was 8th in both the 800 and the 1600.
At Districts, Hackett finished 10th in the 1600 and 11th in the 800 while Fay was 13th in the 800.
A pair of freshmen who were key for the Cowanesque Valley softball team this season .. Braelynn Balada hit .400 with 22 base hits (6-2b), 17 runs scored, 10 RBI and a .459 OBP .. and Emma Carl batted .350 with 21 hits (7-2b), 15 runs, 12 RBI and a .403 OBP and went 3-0 from the circle after working 27 innings with a 2.85 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
