THE SPORTS REPORTS: TOWANDA'S COBB NAMED 'GIRLS NEWCOMER OF THE SPRING;' THREE TIOGA COUNTY GIRLS MAKE THE LIST (July 29, 2026)

Towanda freshman Maris Cobb established herself as an impact performer in two sports this spring, and is The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm 2026 "Girls Newcomer of the Spring." 

Cobb was a state qualifier in the 3,200-meter run on the Knights' track team, and was also a state qualifier in the 1,600-meter run, and as a member of the 3,200-meter relay.

On the softball diamond, Cobb led the Knights with 23 runs scored, while .259 and driving in 14 runs.

Madilyn Callear, freshman, Northeast Bradford softball: Callear hit .410 with 15 RBI and 19 runs scored. She also threw 47 1/3 innings and struck out 30 batters.

Kezlynn DeKay, 8th-grader, Waverly track & field: DeKay won the 100-meter hurdles title at the state qualifier, and was part of Waverly's strong 4-by-100 relay team.

Marley Devlin, freshman, Elmira: Devlin finished among the Section IV leaders in passing attempts and completions, throwing for 1,374 yards, just 35 yards shy of Elmira’s school record held by Payton Ross. She led the Express to the Section IV Class A Championship Game, and immediately established herself as one of the top QBs in the section.

Lia Fischer, freshman Wyalusing track & field: Fischer was a strong triple jumper from the get-go, but turned into a district medalist in the 110 hurdles, while also earning an NTL title in the event.

Scarlett Graham, North Penn-Mansfield track & field: Graham medaled with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash and an eighth-place in the 4-by-800 relay at Districts, and qualified for the PIAA Championships, finishing 15th in the 400.

Julia Kaczyński, North Penn-Liberty softball: Kaczynski hit .446 with 25 base hits, including nine doubles, and had 20 runs scored, nine RBI, eight stolen bases

Hannah Kauffman, sophomore, Corning softball: Kauffman was a third-team all-state pick, and hit .382 with 19 RBI on a regional finalist.

Raya Preston, freshman, Canton softball: Preston hit .405 with 18 RBI, five doubles, one home run, and 11 runs scored, while striking out 57 in the circle.

Clare McLaughlin, freshman, Corning track & field: McLaughlin was a state qualifier in the pentathlon, and sectional runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles.

Jemma Randall, junior, Horseheads golf: A state qualifier, Randall shot a 100 at the Section IV Championships to place eighth and punch her ticket to States.

Maddie Rogers, 8th-grader, Tioga softball: Rogers hit .406 (28 hits in 69 ABs) with two doubles, one triple, 14 RBI and 19 runs scored. She also walked 11 times for a .488 on-base percentage and stole six bases. 

Hailey Smith, freshman, Wellsboro softball: Smith batted .328 with 20 base hits, including three triples and three doubles, and had 27 runs scored, seven RBI, nine stolen bases and a .432 on-base percentage.
