NTL VOLLEYBALL: LADY HORNETS TAKE FIVE-SET THRILLER FROM NP-LIBERTY IN CHUCK TAMERIS MEMORIAL GAME (October 6, 2026)
Northern Tier West Sports ReportWELLSBORO — The Wellsboro and North Penn-Liberty volleyball teams treated a packed ‘Hive’ to a five-set thriller in the annual Chuck Tameris Memorial Pink Out match here Tuesday, with the Lady Hornets coming out on top, 3-2.
Wellsboro took the first set 25-23, followed by a 25-16 win for the Lady Mounties in set two. The Hornets won 26-24 to go up 2-1 and Liberty rallied for a 25-20 fourth-set win to force a fifth, where Wellsboro sealed the match with a 15-11 victory.
“It was a great match,” said Hornets’ Head Coach Darci Pollock following the win .. Wellsboro’s third straight in the annual match-up, “We were down most of the night, so it was exciting to see the girls work from behind each set and focus on one point at a time.
“I absolutely love everything about this game. Our pink out game is so much more than just volleyball. Seeing two teams, their fans and families come together to support the American Cancer Society and to honor Chuck Tameris and his family has been amazing. I ‘m grateful our team has been able to keep the trophy in Wellsboro. Not only is it exciting to win this rivalry, but it is so special for Teagan (Novinger) to win the trophy with her team in memory of her grandfather. I’m very proud of this team and their accomplishments so far this season.”
Peyton Keane finished the match with 20 kills, 34 digs and nine service points with three aces, while Kendall Sweet had 20 points with four aces and 15 kills.
Ellie Largey had 25 digs and 28 assists, Jill Mickey had 24 assists and nine points, Maddy Cruttenden had 32 digs, Ady Frantz had 13 kills and a block, Teagan Novinger had three solo blocks and two assisted and Gena Fleming had three solo and three assisted blocks.
For the Lady Mounties, Maddie McNamara had 25 digs .. including the 500th of the junior libero’s career. Gabby Bubeck had 24 digs and 11 kills and Madison Smith had 29 assists, 15 digs and two kills.
Lilly McNamara had 10 kills and 20 digs, Elaina Shaw had 11 digs, two kills, a block and an assist, Kendall Graham had six kills, a block and three digs and Vicki McTish had 11 digs and eight kills.
Wellsboro, now 11-2 on the season with their sixth straight win, is scheduled to return to play on Thursday at Troy, while North Penn-Liberty falls to 11-3 with their first loss since September 1st .. when they fell 3-0 to the Hornets.
The Lady Mounties have a big match with Towanda (10-2) .. who has beaten both Wellsboro and Liberty this season .. on Friday at home.
