DISTRICT IV VOLLEYBALL: WILLIAMSON TO TAKE ON WYALUSING IN AA SEMI-FINALS (November 1, 2021)Lance LarcomNorthern Tier West Sports ReportOn Tuesday, third-seeded Williamson will “host†second-seeded Wyalusing in the District IV AA volleyball playoffs, giving each team a chance to win the currently-split season series and a spot in the finals against North Penn-Liberty.
Williamson opened their season with a 3-1 win over Wyalusing, and the Rams returned the favor later in the season, taking down the Warriors 3-1.
Both teams have had nice winning streaks during the season, with Williamson starting their season by winning seven of their first eight games, while Wyalusing went 5-9 in the first half, then won eight of their last 10.
The two NTL foes have multiple common opponents, as both split a pair of games with NEB this season, the Rams fell twice to Canton while the Warriors split with them, and Williamson lost 3-0 to Williamsport, who Wyalusing topped 3-1.
Each team has 493 kills on the season, with Hannah Ely leading the Rams with 103 and two other players recording at least 85 .. Sage Superko and Karissa Brown.
For Williamson, sophomore T.R. Jones had 153 kills and senior Riley Sargent had 135. Setting up most of those kills was junior Grace Stephens, who finished with 338 assists.
Ram libero Priscilla Newton led her team with 320 digs, while Williamson’s Adelaide Schmitt had 362. Schmitt will unfortunately miss the playoffs due to an injury. Jones has had 296 digs for the Warriors, while Grace Stephens had 215 and first-year Joelie Stephens had 186.
In the first meeting, won by Williamson on September 8th, the Warriors had 29 kills .. Jones - 9, Riley Sargent - 8, Kaylee Sargent - 7 .. to the Rams’ 15 .. Otis - 4.
In the Rams’ win on October 14, Wyalusing had 39 kills .. Ely - 13, Brown - 8 .. while Williamson had 34 .. Jones - 9, Kaylee Sargent - 8, Riley Sargent - 7.
