MANSFIELD — North Penn-Mansfield rebounded from their loss to rival Wellsboro Saturday by exploding for 42 first-half points and mercy-ruling Sayre 67-35 in NTL crossover action Monday.

After surrendering the first two points of the game to Sayre’s Zach Garrity, the Tigers would go on a 20-6 run, fueled by a pair of Sammy Lawrence ‘and-1’s’ and three pointers by Eli Shaw and Joe Sember.

Sayre’s Dom Fabbri scored five points to end the quarter to limit the Tiger lead to 20-13.

Brody Burleigh scored four straight points to start the second quarter, and Shaw added a pair of buckets sandwiched around a Josh Arnold jumper to give NPM a 28-15 lead.

The Tigers would go on to outscore Sayre 22-5 in the quarter, with seven Burleigh points and six from Shaw leading the way.

Coming out of the break up 42-18, NPM answered a Fabbri basket with two points from Shaw and a three from Lawrence. Shaw and Karson Dominick would answer a Josh Arnold three with a basket each and after trading baskets and a Burleigh free-throw, Joe Semper hit a three to push the Tiger lead into the mercy rule at 57-27.

NP-Mansfield limited Sayre to five fourth-quarter points and put 10 more points on the board to secure the win.

Lawrence and Burleigh each finished with 14 points to lead four Tigers in double figures, as Shaw scored 13 points and Dominick finished with 10.

Sember had three threes for nine points, while Alex Davis added four, Andrew Green had a pair and Kaidyn Choplofsky chipped in with a point.

The win leaves NP-Mansfield with a 7-1 record. They’ll return to action Wednesday when they host NTL large-school foe Athens.
