ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: WINTER WEEK 6 (2022-01-16)

TIOGA COUNTY — Our honorees this week led their respective teams to some wins, some near-wins and showed consistency throughout their week of contests.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Emma Coolidge, Wellsboro
The Hornets’ do-everything senior, Coolidge helped keep Wellsboro competitive for a half with the high-powered Towanda Lady Knights, scoring 10 points in a 60-35 loss, then scored 11 in a 40-25 win over NP-Mansfield to snap a five-game losing streak and edge the Hornets back to a game within .500 on the season.

WRESTLING
George Valentine, North Penn-Liberty
The Mountie freshman continued his stellar inaugural varsity season by picking up a pair of falls at a tri-meet with Danville and CMVT, which NPL split, then recorded a fall to open a close dual-meet loss to Athens, before rounding out his week by coming back from a loss to open the Matness at the MACC Tournament and winning four straight matches by fall, the last of which gives the 215-pounder his 20th win of the season.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Peyton McClure, Wellsboro
The junior sharp-shooter scored 15 points in a romp over Williamson, then led the Hornets to a big win over large-school foe Athens by draining seven three-pointers .. giving him 10 in two games .. and scoring 21 points to help Wellsboro keep pace with an 8-2 record on the season, including 3-1 in the division.
