NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: MOUNTIES EDGED BY ATHENS (2022-01-25)

ATHENS — North Penn-Liberty pushed an Athens team fresh off an upset of Large School leader Troy, but came up just short and fell to the Wildcats 56-49 in NTL boys crossover play Tuesday night. 

Noah Shedden scored six first-quarter points for the Mounties as they fell behind 12-8 after one, then put six more points on the board to lead NPL to a 15-10 quarter and a 23-22 halftime lead.

Derek Litzelman added four second-quarter points while Derek Bradley hit a three and Hunter Thompson added a bucket before the break.

Litzelman and Thompson each scored five third-quarter points but Athens held an 18-13 edge to take a four-point lead into the final quarter.

Kyle Davis hit a pair of threes in the fourth, and Litzelman added four points as well, but the Wildcats scored 16 to account for the 56-49 final. 

Shedden finished with 17 points to lead NP-Liberty, and completed the double-double with 13 rebounds.

Litzelman scored 13 points and added four assists and four rebounds, while Thompson had eight points and four assists.

Davis had the two threes for six points and grabbed four boards, while Bradley finished with five points.

NP-Liberty falls to 9-6 on the season with the loss. They are scheduled to host NP-Mansfield on Thursday.
